Sunday, February 2: Alaska Ski for Women

Join in the fun at the colorful Alaska Ski for Women (ASFW) – North America’s largest women-only cross-country ski event. This is a great event where women of all ages and abilities come out to ski approximately 2.4 miles (4K), many in colorful costumes, while raising funds for local non-profit organizations, including AWAIC, that help stop the cycle of domestic abuse against women and children.

The 2020 ASFW will be held on February 2nd at Kincaid Park. Visit the NSAA website for more information and to register.

February 2020: Teen Dating Violence Action Month

Throughout the month of February, AWAIC will join forces with other community agencies and youth to host events encouraging positive, healthy relationships. Click here to download the calendar of events!

February 3rd: School Announcement Day
Location: All Anchorage School District Middle & High Schools
Details: All schools will announce the month and relevant statistics to teens.

February 11th: UAA Healthy Sexuality Fair
Time: 10am-2pm
Location: UAA, Rasmuson Hall Lobby
Details: Free STI screening and a variety of vendors with interactive activities around healthy youth and relationships.

February 11th: Wear Orange for Love Day
Location: Everywhere
Details: Wear orange to show support for healthy teen relationships! Take a selfie and post it using #AKHealthyRelationships #TDVAPM #TDVAM

February 15th-17th: Identity Youth Summit
The purpose of Identity’s Winter Youth Leadership Summit is to create a community of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and Two-Spirit (LGBTQ2+) youth and their allies statewide. The Summit includes workshops and trainings to educate youth on healthy life skills and relationships, develop leadership skills, and empower youth to be change agents in their communities. Registration is required.

February 19th: Teen Support Group
Location: Covenant House, 755 A Street
Details: Walk-in group for youth ages 13-22 who want to talk about relationships and what it takes for healthy relationships. Free snacks!

February 24th-28th: Chalk About Love Week
Location: Schools, Youth Groups
Details: Youth can participate in drawing or writing what love looks like. Take a pic and tag it #AKHealthyRelationships #TDVAPM #TDVAM

February 26th: Communication Skills for Parents
Location: UAA
Details: Presentation for anyone with pre-teens to teens. Learn skills for having challenging conversations with youth or gain ideas for conversation starters.
