How to support a victim :: AWAIC Group Information :: General DV Info :: Resource Links



Groups that are offered at AWAIC include:

Domestic Violence 101- DV 101 is an overview of what domestic violence is and how it occurs. This class also talks about the causes and effects that domestic violence has on the victims and people who witness the violence.

Red Flags- Red Flags is an education group that focuses on warnings signs to look for while in a relationship or starting one.

Boundaries- This group helps you to define your personal boundaries and aids in developing skills to maintain your boundaries.

Effects of DV on Children- Effects of DV on Children gives you information about what kids might be witnessing and feeling while living in a house with violence present.

Protective Orders- P.O.’s can be tricky - during this group, you can get all of your questions answered about Court and Protective Orders.

Safety Planning- This group explains the dangers of leaving an abusive relationship and what precautions you need to take to stay safe.

Community Resource- Agencies of the community come to give information about their services. Some of the agencies include Planned Parenthood and Anchorage Neighborhood Health.

Parenting Group- This group provides information and support to women needing a little extra assistance in parenting. This is a support class. If you need parenting classes for court, please contact our crisis line for up to date referrals. AWAIC Crisis Line: 272-0100

Support Group- Support Group is a setting where you can listen to others or share your experience with survivors of domestic violence and get additional support.

Group guidelines:

  1. Before you can attend group you must first see a case manager. Please make an appointment by calling our business line at 279-9585.
  2. You must be alcohol and drug-free.
  3. Doors are locked 15 min after group starts, so please be prompt.
  4. Please adhere to the confidentiality agreement you signed during the intake with your case manager.
